Longbow, Clout & Field Archery News

Longbow News

To compliment the AGB rankings system and make the season a bit more exciting Barry Du-Crow and Paul Gregory from Southampton AC have secured sponsorship from the “Longbow Shop” in the form of Winners trophies and 2nd 3rd medals in the following categories. GMB MB Bowmen and below for both Ladies and Gents. These are based on your classification at the start of the season.
Barry has been in discussion with Jon Nott of AGB and he is in full support and has offered his assistance and publicity.
The website is ready at   https://sites.google.com/view/uk-longbow-ranking/home
Barry will be entering the results from published scores and also Jon Nott has said that there will be a page on the AGB site for Longbow archers to submit their scores throughout the season, these will be mailed to Barry (and entered as provisional results until I see the tournament results published)
Jon Nott expressed a desire to increase the competing longbow archers from 37 (on last years rankings table) to 100. This is something they will strive to do.
An important part of our league is that archers are awarded 1st 2nd and 3rd in all classes which gives much more encouragement to those climbing up the ladder so to speak.
This first year is very much work in progress and would like to develop the league with maybe adding a Championship division for Archers up to 1st class with shorter distance tournaments NON record status and also a junior league
They have also mirrored the system for Barebow and have Nick Hayball from Southampton who will run this. He is at present looking for a sponsor for the trophies etc

Besides target archery CCB members have the opportunity to do CLOUT archery and FIELD ARCHERY at no extra expense.
CLOUT archery happens once a month on Thursday evenings at Mannings Lane ground. Dave Peters and other experienced archers are happy to give instruction to anyone who wants to try it out. It involves shooting at a flag sticking in the ground and seeing how close you can get to it (no targets need putting out)
Dates are all 6pm on Thursday and are highlighted green on the club summer programme attached. Copies on notice boards in both ends of the container.
May 17th
June 7th
July 5th
August 23rd
August 30th

FIELD archery involves moving around woods to different sized black and white targets at different distances. The field course is at the bottom of STABLE LANE MOULDSWORTH  CH3 8AN. Go through the gate down the track and meet in the car park area in front of the toilet block (green building)

This happens every Thursday evening 6pm in the summer and on some Sundays (see Summer Programme) but please advise Andy Pollitt or Joyce Harrison if you intend going as it is on farm land. You could just shoot at one target at a set distance if you wanted extra practice.

In 2018 we will not be holding the Cheshire Field Archery Tournament but hope to be back hosting the competition in 2019.
